The Local Authority and the Governors have agreed it is time to formally reduce the Published Admissions Number of Ruislip Gardens from 90 to 60 pupils, and is consulting on this now, to take effect from September 2022 when the maximum Reception intake would be 60, and in each Reception year following. This enables the school to continue to plan staffing and teaching for pupils for the number of classes we have now. This will not change anything for pupils and parents at the school or those living nearby wishing to join the school in future as currently each year group is now below the proposed upper limit of 60. If you wish you can indicate your views on a short on-line survey www.hillingdon.gov.uk/consultation. The proposed change at Ruislip Gardens is Question 4 - and you need to answer the others first to get to it - but can put don't know/ not applicable to get to the last two questions about Ruislip Gardens. If you have any other questions or comments please email admissions@hillingdon.gov.uk.

Headteacher's Welcome ⥂

Forest School

We are extremely fortunate to have extensive grounds at Ruislip Gardens. Every child has the opportunity to partake in Forest School sessions throughout the academic year – where we take learning outside! The ethos of Forest Schools is to allow children the time and space to develop skills, interest and understanding through a range of activities which provide practical, hands-on experiences in a natural environment.

We have a large polytunnel and planting area of raised beds. The children are able to take part in the process of planting and growing their own fruit and vegetables. The children take responsibility for watering the seeds and caring for them. We then enjoy tasting them as they are offered on our school canteen salad bar. If we produce an excessive amount, we also run vegetable sales for our school community.

We also have a storytelling chair and circle for English and PSHE activities.

Next to the fields, we also have an entrance to the Ickenham Marshes which provides a wonderful opportunity for the children to explore a different environment.

Occasionally we also have external visitors who come in and run activities with the children to enhance their learning outdoors.

And sometimes we just take our indoor learning outdoors! Children learn well through practical experiences, and having the vast grounds that we do enables us to bring learning to life. Children have practiced name writing, investigating right angles, creating art, developing recipes, calculating shadow areas and so much more in the outdoor area.

All children bring in a Forest School kit of wellington boots and waterproof clothing as we enjoy exploring the elements throughout the seasons! Some Forest School sessions are planned for and some are spontaneous so we encourage the children to keep their kit in school.
