The Local Authority and the Governors have agreed it is time to formally reduce the Published Admissions Number of Ruislip Gardens from 90 to 60 pupils, and is consulting on this now, to take effect from September 2022 when the maximum Reception intake would be 60, and in each Reception year following. This enables the school to continue to plan staffing and teaching for pupils for the number of classes we have now. This will not change anything for pupils and parents at the school or those living nearby wishing to join the school in future as currently each year group is now below the proposed upper limit of 60. If you wish you can indicate your views on a short on-line survey www.hillingdon.gov.uk/consultation. The proposed change at Ruislip Gardens is Question 4 - and you need to answer the others first to get to it - but can put don't know/ not applicable to get to the last two questions about Ruislip Gardens. If you have any other questions or comments please email admissions@hillingdon.gov.uk.

Headteacher's Welcome ⥂

Curriculum: Year 2

Mrs Healy is the class teacher for 2 Cedar.

Miss Coburn is the class teacher for 2 Blossom.

Welcome back to Ruislip Gardens School, Year Two! Miss Coburn, Mrs Healy and Mrs Cummings are looking forward to seeing you all again, we have heard such great things about you from your last teachers and have been busy planning fun things for you all. We hope that you enjoyed your summer holiday and were able to spend more time with family and friends, in the sun and the rain! We were lucky to be able to do that, as well as visit some of the beautiful places in England, many of which we will learn more about in Year 2.

We have an exciting curriculum in Year Two, with content that will engage and inspire you all. From things close to home, such as London; both present day and events that shaped its future such as the Great Fire. To the fascinating world of space travel, the moon landing and looking to the future as the world prepares a mission to Mars. As we learn about the lives of some significant people in history, we hope to inspire the next generation of engineers, artists or explorers as we study Brunel, Lowry and Christopher Columbus. It’s important to compare our daily lives to others around the world and some of our texts include life in countries in Africa, including the use of plastic in our world and its effects. In the final term we will become ‘Explorers’ as we travel the world through books, role play, animal habitats and much more. Each topic offers the opportunity to immerse in cross curricular activities.

In the Autumn term we will focus on our capital city, London, through our creative curriculum. We will read class texts such as ‘Paddington’ and ‘Katie in London’ and share information texts too about the famous landmarks and fascinating history. Our Maths focus for the Autumn term is number and place value, addition and subtraction, money, multiplication and division where we will learn to reason and apply our knowledge in real life contexts. In Science, we will investigate the growth, health and life cycle of different animals and humans. We will carry out a set of exciting investigations to test our enquiries.

Your child will continue to bring reading books home to share with you and we will both record their reading in our Google classroom, more information will follow on this.

Ruislip Gardens school focuses on 4 core values and Year Two will learn about and discuss responsibility in the Autumn term, including finding out why responsibility is essential for personal growth and its use in the wider community. Please make sure your child has their forest school kit in school ready for us to regularly make the most of our wonderful school grounds and take the learning outside too.

PE days in Year 2 will be Wednesday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor).

Pupils can wear PE kit on the days that they have PE but it has to be the following:

  • White T-shirt
  • Black shorts for inside
  • Black (plain) jogging bottoms for outside
  • Black plimsolls for inside
  • Trainers for outside use

We are very excited to begin to use Google classroom. One of the things it will be used for is homework which will be uploaded directly to reduce paper and children will upload their homework on to the platform as well.
