Headteacher's Welcome ⥂

EYFS

Welcome to Ruislip Gardens’ Early Years Unit.

We have two classes in our unit.

Mrs Le Fevre is the class teacher for Daisy Class

Mrs Savage is the Class teacher for Buttercup Class

Mrs Freeman is the Nursery Nurse for the Early Years unit.

Miss Qureshi is the teaching assistant for the Early Years Unit

Ms Murphy, Ms Eren and Miss Yeardley are the EYFS support staff

Our Early Years team work together to provide a safe, engaging, environment with open ended activities where children can grow in independence as they learn. We aim to provide play experiences that help children to develop the characteristics of effective learning.

Playing and exploring – Children investigate and experience things and “have a go.’

Active learning – Children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties and enjoy achievements.

Creating and thinking critically – Children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas and develop strategies for doing things.

Our Curriculum is based on the statutory EYFS framework which sets out 7 areas of learning and development. We plan our learning around termly topics.

  • Autumn 1 - Tales and Rhymes, Autumn 2 - Colours and Celebrations
  • Spring 1 - Friends and Family, Spring 2 - Food Glorious Food
  • Summer 1 - On the Move, Summer 2 - All Creatures Great and Small

In Reception we follow the Twinkl Phonics DFE approved scheme and use White Rose for our maths activities.

Friday is the day we have our Reception PE lesson. All Reception children should come to school in PE kit on a Friday.

  • White T-shirt
  • Black shorts for inside
  • Black (plain) jogging bottoms for outside
  • VELCRO fastening Black plimsolls or trainers (no shoes with laces please)

For Forest school, both Nursery and Reception children will need a pair of wellington boots and a waterproof coat. The boots will on our welly rack and the coat should be in a named drawstring or carrier bag which will be kept on their coat peg. Please name all items of clothing including wellington boots.

In Reception we use the tapestry online app for recording your children’s activities and achievements. All parents will have access to this app so that you can see your children’s learning.
