Sports Premium

The Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport provide additional funding to primary schools in order to help us to improve our PE provision.

The premium must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of primary-aged pupils, to encourage the development of healthy and active lifestyles.

The funding figure is based on the number of pupils in Years 1 to 6 as recorded in the January census.

This year we are in receipt of our sixth year of funding. Our funding for this year, 2019-2020 is an estimated £20,510.

The funding will help us with:

  • Training and development of teachers
  • Continued support for staff supported in the delivery of gymnastics
  • Replacement of core sports items e.g. goal posts
  • Developing the School Games infrastructure within RGS

These initiatives are expected to offer the following impacts:

  • Increase sport and exercise provision and participation, including within hard to reach groups
  • Teachers will deliver enhanced PE lessons as a result of the support of specialists, leading to better outcomes for pupils
  • Children will have greater access to PE equipment to develop physical skills
  • Improved skills and fitness of all children with an awareness of healthy eating

Year 6 Swimming Data:

We are delighted to report that due to the additional swimming provision 78% of our year 6 cohort are able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of 25 metres. We have been learning a range of different strokes, including front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke. An impressive 71% of our cohort are able to effectively swim using a range of these strokes and are also confident performing self-rescue in different water based situations. We are very proud of our young swimmers and congratulate them all on their progress and achievements.

2016-2017 Funding was £9,714.

The funding was used for:

  • Training for teachers
  • Staff supported in the delivery of gymnastics
  • New sports equipment including archery equipment
  • Developing the School Games infrastructure within RGS
  • Staff training and development

2015-2016 Funding of £9,630 supported us in:

  • Healthy eating and fitness workshops for the whole school
  • Additional and new sports clubs being offered
  • New equipment
  • Change 4 life club
  • Training for all teachers
  • Specialist gymnastics classes

These initiatives offered the following impacts:

  • Teachers have made some progress towards the provision of enhanced PE lessons
  • Increased participation in extra curricular activities
  • PE as a Curriculum area has become more developed and improved
  • Children have more access to PE equipment during lunchtimes
