Curriculum: Year 2
This term, Year 2 have been very busy learning all about the history, people and geography of one of the world’s most famous cities, London.
The children started of the term with a very special and new friend! A bear, lost and confused, with nothing but marmalade arrived in our classrooms. He told us his name was Paddington and many of the children instantly recognised him as the famous Peruvian bear, who has had many adventures in London. Throughout this term, the children discovered more about the capital city, creating factual booklets about the wonderful places tourists can visit. The children have been engrossed in their learning of the city and have wowed a wide audience with their fantastic narratives of Paddington’s new adventures!
The children particularly enjoyed studying pointillism, a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of colour are applied in patterns to form an image. The children used cotton buds to help them recreate some of London’s famous landmarks. It took a long time but the results were fantastic!
As part of our London topic, we looked closely at the significant event, ‘The Great Fire of London’. Each class were given the challenge of creating their own musical pieces of to convey the devastating event. The children worked in teams to compose a piece using drums, triangles and tambourines. All of the children enjoyed performing their impressive pieces to a wider audience.
